The Four Minute Men were a group of volunteers authorized by President Wilson, to give four minute speeches on the topics that were given to them by the Committee of Public Information. Those topics usually concerned World War 1. They were under the direction of George Creel, a newspaper editor, who set the volunteers out to give speeches where ever they were able to get an audience, in movie theaters, churches, synagogues, and labor union, lodge, and grange halls. There were about 75,000 amateurs who gave around 7.5 million speeches to about 314 million people, to help sell this war to the Americans.
